Shettima Calls for National Peace Covenant at Jang's 80th

On Saturday, during the 80th birthday celebration of former Plateau State Governor Jonah David Jang in Jos, Vice President Kashim Shettima urged for a renewed national covenant on peace. He called on Nigerians to reject ethnic profiling, religious hatred, misinformation, and retaliatory violence, emphasizing that peace is essential for sustainable economic growth and national prosperity.

Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill to Jang and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to a secure and inclusive Nigeria. He condemned the collective blame of entire ethnic or religious groups for individual crimes, stating that "crime has no tribe" and "violence has no religion." Acknowledging the violence in Plateau State, he praised the community's resilience in maintaining peaceful coexistence.

Shettima assured that the Federal Government would continue to protect lives and property while urging citizens to favor reconciliation over revenge. He also announced the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant to the President.
