Shettima Urges Peace and Forgiveness in Plateau State

On Saturday, during the 80th birthday celebration and public presentation of the autobiography of former Plateau Governor, Sen. Jonah David Jang, Vice President Kashim Shettima addressed the need for peace in the region.

He stated that lasting peace could only be achieved if the younger generation breaks the cycle of revenge. Shettima emphasized that "criminals have no tribe or religion," urging the youth to reject inherited hatred and embrace reconciliation.

He expressed concern for young people, particularly women and children, who bear the burdens of conflicts they did not initiate. Shettima called on elders to guide the youth towards forgiveness instead of instigating violence, highlighting that blaming entire ethnic or religious groups for the actions of criminals deepens divisions.

He described the impact of violence on the region, noting that it has turned fertile lands into mourning places and markets into silent areas. Shettima appealed to elder statesmen, especially Jang, to mentor the youth towards peace, recognizing Plateau's significance in Nigeria's history and security.
