COOU Lecturer Suspended Amid Academic Integrity Concerns

Chike Osegbu, a professor in the Political Economy Development Studies Department at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), was suspended for three months effective January 8, 2026, following a letter dated January 7, 2025, signed by Registrar Chris U. Obi on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.

The suspension is linked to allegations that Osegbu failed to teach the postgraduate course PSC 811 on Environment, Politics, and Sustainable Development during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. Osegbu has criticized the Vice Chancellor for allegedly not adhering to university guidelines and for allowing students who did not meet the required 75% attendance to sit for examinations.

Reports indicate that none of the students registered for the course met the eligibility criteria, raising concerns about academic standards and integrity at COOU. An investigation into these practices revealed that 70 students graduated without proper examination records, highlighting a potential "certificate racket" within the university.
