COOU Lecturer Osegbu Critiques University Exam Practices

Chike Osegbu, a professor in the Department of Political Science at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), has spoken out after being suspended for three months, effective January 8, 2026. His suspension, communicated via a letter dated January 7, 2025, signed by Registrar Chris U.

Obi on behalf of the vice chancellor, stems from allegations that he did not teach the assigned postgraduate course PSC 811 on Environment, Politics, and Sustainable Development during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. Osegbu claims that the vice chancellor has failed to uphold academic standards, allowing students who did not meet the required 75% attendance to sit for examinations.

He highlighted a broader issue of a "certificate racket" within the university, where students have graduated without proper examination records. Osegbu's concerns were raised in light of a petition from 12 students against admitting 28 others who failed to meet eligibility criteria.

He called for an end to the culture of certificate racketeering and emphasized the need for adherence to academic regulations.
