Minister Idris Warns Against Fake News Threat to Nigeria

During a Ramadan lecture held on April 20, 2023, in Kaduna, Information Minister Mohammed Idris emphasized that fake news is a major threat to Nigeria's stability. Idris described the digital age as a defining moment for Nigeria's unity and moral direction, noting that misinformation spreads faster than the truth, often amplified by algorithms. He referenced Surah Al-Hujurat 49:6, advocating for a culture of verification and accountability in information sharing.

Idris highlighted the government's investment in digital empowerment initiatives, including the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, aimed at transforming technology into a tool for opportunity rather than division. He also called for regulatory measures on social media to curb the spread of harmful content, echoing sentiments from Sheikh Tukur Adam Al-Manar and Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State regarding the need for responsible digital usage.
