Media's Role in Nigeria's Anti-Corruption Efforts Highlighted

During a workshop held in Abuja on Thursday, the Nigerian Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, highlighted the media's essential role in the fight against corruption. The event was organized in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Idris described the theme of the workshop as a means to engage and reinvigorate the nation's anti-corruption strategy, emphasizing the need for sustained media engagement. He noted that no modern leader can afford to lead without partnering with the media, which he termed a loyal partner in promoting transparency.

ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu also addressed the workshop, calling for stronger collaboration between the media and anti-graft institutions.

He acknowledged the challenges journalists face, including threats to personal safety and restricted access to information. The workshop aimed to strengthen the partnership between journalists and anti-corruption agencies as part of Nigeria's ongoing anti-corruption strategy.
