Nigeria and Italy Collaborate for $5 Billion Education Fund

Nigeria and Italy have collaborated to implement the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) financing campaign, aiming to mobilize $5 billion for education financing worldwide. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated that the GPE vision aligns with Nigeria’s agenda to improve educational outcomes by investing in access and teacher capacity building.
This announcement was made during the Multiply Possibility High-level event, “A New Era for Education Financing,” at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, highlighted that education is an investment in Nigeria’s economic future and national productivity.
Since assuming office in 2023, the Tinubu administration has increased resources for education and initiated reforms to enhance basic education financing. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund aims to widen access to higher education, with plans to utilize recovered funds from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for educational financing.
The program is expected to benefit approximately 29 million children and 500,000 teachers across Nigeria.
