Fani-Kayode Accuses Atiku of Betrayal in Cabinet

Femi Fani-Kayode, serving as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, recounted his demands for the removal of Atiku Abubakar from Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings due to what he termed Atiku's betrayal of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Fani-Kayode, who was Minister of Aviation at the time, described two significant confrontations during Cabinet sessions.

In the first instance, he confronted Atiku in front of other Cabinet members, leading to Obasanjo intervening to prevent embarrassment for Atiku. During a subsequent meeting, Fani-Kayode reiterated his demand for Atiku to leave, threatening that other ministers would walk out if he did not comply.

Obasanjo again intervened, compelling Atiku to apologize to the Cabinet for his actions, which Fani-Kayode alleged were motivated by Atiku's ambition to usurp Obasanjo's position. After this incident, Atiku did not attend any further Cabinet meetings.
