Opposition Leaders Demand INEC Chairman's Dismissal

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, alongside David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, have raised alarms over an alleged plot to impose a one-party state in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. They have called for the immediate dismissal of INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan, accusing him of actions that undermine the credibility and transparency of upcoming elections.

This demand was articulated during a speech read on behalf of the ADC at a gathering in Abuja. The ADC leaders claim that the current political climate, marked by hardship and insecurity, is being manipulated to ensure that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress becomes the only viable presidential candidate.

They also criticized INEC's recent decision to delist the ADC from its website, which they argue is part of a broader strategy to weaken opposition parties. The ADC has been under scrutiny for the past three years, with ongoing legal disputes regarding its leadership structure.
