Political Leaders Gather in Abuja Over ADC Derecognition

On Wednesday, a significant meeting occurred at the Yar'Adua Center in Abuja, attended by prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) David Mark, and other notable leaders including Rauf Aregbesola, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi. The gathering was convened in response to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing that it no longer recognizes the ADC's leadership amid an ongoing court dispute regarding the party's leadership tussle.

INEC's Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, informed that the commission would maintain the status quo and would not monitor the ADC's national convention scheduled for April 14 until the court resolves the leadership crisis. The commission declined a request to allow the party to proceed with its affairs while the case is pending, emphasizing that it will not engage with factions of the ADC until a definitive court decision is reached.
