Atiku Abubakar Clarifies Petroleum Intervention Plan

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), clarified his stance on petroleum intervention, stating it is not a return to Nigeria's discredited import-subsidy regime. In a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku emphasized that his proposal is aimed at providing targeted support for domestic production to alleviate the cost of living.

This clarification was prompted by comments from Paul Ibe, which suggested that an Atiku administration would restore fuel subsidy temporarily. Shaibu described these comments as unauthorized and misleading.

He reiterated that Atiku's policy involves a capped, transparently budgeted subsidy that supports domestic refining and production, with conditions for exit built in from the start. The focus is on reducing production and transportation costs, strengthening domestic refining, and restoring purchasing power, contrasting with the current administration's approach.
