Atiku Abubakar Challenges Obasanjo's Electoral Value

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, dismissed the electoral strength of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, claiming he could not win his own state or the South-West during the 1999 presidential election. Atiku stated that it was Arewa that made Obasanjo President, asserting that Obasanjo possesses no electoral value.

This statement is part of a renewed dispute between the two politicians, which intensified after Obasanjo labeled his choice of Atiku as his running mate in 1999 as the “biggest mistake” of his presidency. Obasanjo accused Atiku of disloyalty and involvement in an alleged impeachment attempt.

In response, Atiku rejected these claims, accusing Obasanjo of rewriting history for political gain ahead of the 2027 elections. He defended his role in the administration, emphasizing his support for Obasanjo post-prison and his contributions to their 1999 victory.

Atiku also promised to create opportunities for young Nigerians if elected in 2027.
