Atiku Abubakar and SOKAPU Demand Action on Kaduna Killings

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, and the Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) condemned the recent killings in Southern Kaduna, specifically in Kauru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State. Atiku described the killings as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” attributing the ongoing violence to the Federal Government's failure to protect its citizens.

He criticized the government's focus on unverified claims of commendation from the United States instead of prioritizing the protection of lives. SOKAPU, in an open letter dated July 27, 2026, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, expressed concern over the escalating violence, particularly following an attack in Narido community where approximately 30 individuals were killed.

The organization called for immediate action from the police, including the deployment of Mobile Police and counter-terrorism units, and emphasized the need for proactive, intelligence-driven policing to ensure the safety of vulnerable communities.
