Atiku Calls for Investigation into N210bn Budget Duplication

Atiku Abubakar, the Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, called on the National Assembly to identify officials responsible for the alleged N210 billion budget duplication in the 2026 Appropriation Act. He demanded an immediate forensic investigation into the budget, which he claimed reflects deeper fiscal indiscipline under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Atiku stated that the report of duplication alongside Nigeria's poor performance on global prosperity indices exposes fiscal recklessness. He criticized the government for asking citizens to endure economic hardship while failing to demonstrate fiscal discipline, noting that the budget is riddled with duplications and overlaps.

He highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in public finances, warning that compromised budgeting erodes investor confidence and public trust. Atiku urged the National Assembly to conduct a comprehensive review of the 2026 budget and called for independent scrutiny of the budget by civil society organizations and the Auditor General of the Federation.
