Atiku Abubakar Demands Accountability from Tinubu on Debt

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, accused President Bola Tinubu of mismanaging the economy while seeking an additional $1.5 billion loan from the World Bank. In a statement from Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communications for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku highlighted that Nigeria's public debt has reached ₦166.79 trillion.

He emphasized the need for Tinubu to account for existing debts before pursuing new loans, noting that the burden on families has increased significantly, with each person's share of the debt now ₦716,822, an 87% rise from three years ago. Atiku questioned the effectiveness of the government's policies, demanding transparency regarding how previous loans were utilized and the expected outcomes of new borrowing.

He insisted that the government must provide detailed plans for funded projects and measurable results, challenging Tinubu to demonstrate tangible benefits to Nigerians from past loans before seeking further financial assistance.
