Atiku's Aide Critiques Senate on Abaribe Defection Issue

Atiku Abubakar's media aide criticized the Senate leadership over the controversy related to Senator Abaribe's defection during a plenary session. The aide, identified as Ib, raised questions about the constitutional implications of Abaribe's move from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This situation arose after Abaribe announced his defection, which led to debates in the Senate regarding the legality of such moves. Ib accused the Senate leadership of selectively invoking constitutional questions, pointing out that similar concerns were not raised when lawmakers from opposition parties defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Furthermore, Ib noted that Abaribe had already been suspended indefinitely from APGA since September 26, 2025, due to alleged anti-party activities, suggesting that he was no longer a member of APGA when he identified with ADC. Ib urged the Senate leadership to focus on legislative responsibilities rather than engaging in political distractions.
