Atiku Abubakar Clarifies Fuel Subsidy Position for Nigerians

Atiku Abubakar, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, clarified his position on fuel subsidy amidst comments from an aide suggesting a temporary restoration. Shaibu labeled those comments as unauthorized and misleading, asserting that Atiku has never intended to restore the import-subsidy regime with a predetermined removal date.

Instead, Atiku proposes a targeted, capped, transparently budgeted, and independently audited subsidy that supports domestic refining and production. This subsidy would include measurable exit conditions from the outset, with no arbitrary withdrawal date.

As domestic refining grows and supply stabilizes, the need for government support would diminish. Shaibu urged Nigerians to focus on the real issue of rising costs and Atiku's plans to make life more affordable, contrasting Atiku's approach with that of President Bola Tinubu, who he claims has transferred economic burdens to families.

The choice presented is between an "Expensive Nigeria" and an "Affordable Nigeria.".
