Auctioneers Demand Probe into Asset Disposal by MDAs

The Nigeria Auctioneers Association, led by National President Musa Kurra, has raised concerns regarding the asset disposal practices of government ministries, departments, and agencies, particularly targeting the Nigeria Customs Service. The association alleges that these entities are bypassing licensed auctioneers, which is against the law, and creating internal structures to manage asset valuation and disposal.

Kurra warned that this practice could lead to violations of due process, depriving the government of substantial revenue and undermining transparency in public asset management. He emphasized that government agencies are assuming dual roles as asset custodians and auctioneers, which is inappropriate.

Kurra specifically criticized the Customs Direct Auction Administration Department as illegal and stated that the disposal of forfeited assets must adhere to the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and relevant laws, ensuring transparency and public engagement in the auction process.
