Australia Requires Support Letter for Work Visa Applicants

Australia's Department of Home Affairs has established specific requirements for nationals from 11 countries applying for the Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462). These applicants must submit an official letter of support from their home government for their visa application to be processed.

The absence of this document will prevent the application from progressing. The Home Affairs authority has also outlined that once a Work and Holiday visa is granted, the 12-month stay period begins automatically upon the applicant's first entry into Australia, regardless of the entry reason.

Holders of this visa must be cautious about applying for additional visas, as obtaining an eVisitor or Transit visa will cancel the Work and Holiday visa and its associated work rights. However, the Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) operates differently; it does not cancel the Work and Holiday visa but cannot be active simultaneously.

Applicants are also reminded to keep their passport details updated with the immigration authority.
