Nigerian Aviation Unions Demand Reversal of Enugu Airport Concession

Aviation unions in Nigeria, including the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), have jointly opposed the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, dated January 26, 2026, the unions expressed their rejection of the concession process, alleging that the workers' rights and privileges were not adequately considered.

The unions highlighted concerns about the lack of transparency in the concession process, leading to widespread agitation among Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) staff nationwide. They emphasized that labor issues were sidestepped during the negotiation and signing of the concession agreement with Aero Alliance.

The unions demanded the immediate reversal of the concession agreement to ensure proper procedures are followed and workers' rights are respected. They warned of planned protests if their demands are not met.
