Bubiad Royal Family Seeks Fair Selection for Awujale

The Bubiad royal family in Ijebu Ode, represented by Alhaji Olaid Yusuf Busura, is calling for fair recognition of their lineage rights in the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland. During a briefing, Busura highlighted the need to address long-standing historical imbalances within the royal lineage associated with the Awujale stool.

He explained that the Bubiad lineage traces its ancestry directly to Oba Jadiara, the first Awujale, and has been historically overlooked in the selection process, which has favored the Funsegbuwa lineage. Busura noted that the current selection process has presented an opportunity to correct this imbalance, as there are eight eligible princes from the Bubiad lineage compared to 75 from other branches.

He urged the Ogun State government and local authorities to ensure a fair selection process that respects traditional customs. The selection process has faced interruptions, with the Awujale stool becoming vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona.

The royal family expressed frustration over the suspension of the selection process and called for its completion.
