Babachir Lawal Resigns from ADC, Claims Primary Rigging

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, citing fundamental flaws in the party's primary process. He claimed that the primary election held on May 25, 2026, was marred by massive rigging that favored Atiku Abubakar, who was declared the winner with 1,846,370 votes.

Lawal alleged that the results were altered to benefit Atiku, with votes being replaced and the election process lacking integrity. He expressed his unwillingness to associate with a political structure that he believes will influence future elections negatively.

This resignation comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding the ADC's presidential primary, which also saw former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Moham Hayatu-Deen place second and third, respectively. Lawal plans to consult with political associates regarding his next steps while continuing to oppose Atiku's presidential ambitions.
