Babcock University Promotes Faith-Based Mental Health Care

Babcock University, located in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, recently held its sixth edition of the Faith-Integrated Symposium, focusing on a faith-informed approach to mental health. The symposium, themed "Heal the Body and Soul," aimed to address Nigeria's increasing mental health burden, where the World Health Organization estimates that 20% of the country's 200 million citizens live with mental health conditions, yet fewer than 10% receive adequate treatment due to limited resources and persistent stigma.

Vice President of Advancement and Development, Dr. Olaniyi Arij, commended the initiative for bringing mental health to the forefront.

The event featured discussions led by healthcare professionals, clergy, and students, exploring the intersection of spirituality and psychological care. Dr.

Adebola Omotosho emphasized the foundational role of mental health in overall well-being, advocating for an integrated support system that respects patients' spiritual perspectives. The symposium also included practical stress management strategies and highlighted the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and strong social connections for holistic well-being.
