Bad Parenting Linked to Rising Social Vices in Nigeria

During his 75th birthday celebration and thanksgiving service at All Souls Church, Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, renowned scholar Prof Jacob Kehinde Oluponna warned that bad parenting is a significant contributor to the rise of societal miscreants and thugs in Nigeria. He emphasized that good parenting is essential for a child's development, stating that it interrupts cycles of abuse and neglect.

Prof Oluponna remarked that the responsibility for fixing Nigeria lies not only with the government but also with citizens, particularly the youth, who must choose paths conducive to the country's progress. He acknowledged the current president's efforts to address national issues and called for collective action from all citizens.

Rt Rev Dr Titus Babatunde Olayinka, the Lord Bishop of Ogbomoso Diocese, praised Prof Oluponna for his exemplary upbringing and contributions to the church. After the service, Prof Oluponna expressed gratitude for his life and health, highlighting his pride in watching his students graduate.
