Lagos Government Advocates for Stronger Parental Support

The Lagos State Government has underscored the significance of enhanced parental cooperation in fostering well-rounded children during a seminar organized by the Lagos Parents’ Forum. The event, themed “Strengthening Synergy for Quality Education in Lagos State Public Schools,” took place in Oshodi and attracted parents from all 20 Local Government Areas and 34 Local Council Development Areas.

Mrs Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, highlighted the necessity of parental involvement in education. Keynote speakers included Dr Sulaiman Ogunmuyiwa, Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, and Angelou Ezeilo, co-President of Ashoka Africa, who both stressed that active parental engagement is crucial for student success.

Ogunmuyiwa, represented by Mr Fajobi Abiodun, urged parents to partner with schools and monitor their children’s academic progress. Mr Olatunbosun Akanbi, Chairman of the Lagos State Parents’ Forum, described the seminar as a wake-up call for parents to fulfill their responsibilities in their children's education.
