Vice-President Shettima Mourns Bamanga Tukur's Passing

Alhaji Dr. Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, CON, passed away on September 12, 2026, just three days before his 91st birthday. Vice-President Kashim Shettima expressed profound sadness over Tukur's death, describing him as a true patriot and a significant loss not only to Adamawa State but also to Nigeria and Africa.

Shettima highlighted Tukur's impactful career, noting his role as General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, where he modernized key ports and significantly improved Nigeria's cargo-handling capacity. Tukur also served as Governor of the old Gongola State and held the position of Minister for Industries under the Abacha administration.

His tenure as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2012 to 2014 was marked by his commitment to party stability, culminating in his voluntary resignation in January 2014. Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo also acknowledged Tukur's contributions, emphasizing the loss to Nigeria at a time when the nation needs experienced leaders.
