Bamanga Tukur's Burial Set for September 13, 2026

The remains of Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and elder statesman, will be buried in Yola, Adamawa State, on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The family released a statement signed by Awwal Tukur, indicating that Tukur's remains would arrive in Yola on Saturday ahead of the funeral rites.

Funeral prayers are scheduled for 10:00 am at the Lamido’s Palace in Yola, followed by burial. Tukur passed away three days before his 91st birthday, marking the end of a significant career in public service, business, and politics.

He held various important positions, including General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Governor of Gongola State, Minister of Industries, and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. Tukur is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal Tukur, who is the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State.

His public service was characterized by contributions to Nigeria's political and economic landscape.
