Burial Date Announced for Late Bamanga Tukur

Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and a notable elder statesman, will be buried in Yola, Adamawa State, on Sunday, September 13, 2026. His family, through Awwal Tukur, announced that his remains would arrive in Yola on Saturday, September 12, 2026, ahead of the funeral rites.

Funeral prayers are scheduled for 10:00 am at the Lamido’s Palace in Yola, followed by burial. Tukur passed away three days before his 91st birthday, having been born on September 15, 1935.

His extensive career included roles as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, Governor of Gongola State in 1983, Minister of Industries from 1993 to 1995, and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Tukur is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal Tukur, the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State.

The choice of the Lamido’s Palace for the funeral reflects Tukur’s deep ties to the traditional institution and the Adamawa community.
