Bamanga Tukur: A Legacy of Service and Leadership

Bamanga Tukur, born on September 15, 1935, was a distinguished Nigerian businessman, administrator, politician, diplomat, and elder statesman. He served as General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, modernizing Nigeria’s ports during a crucial economic phase.

Elected Governor of Gongola State in 1983, he later became Federal Minister of Industries from 1993 to 1995 under General Sani Abacha. Tukur was also National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from March 2012 to January 2014.

His business ventures through BHI Holdings and DADDO Group contributed significantly to manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics. He championed African economic development as Executive President of the African Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described Tukur’s death as the end of “a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s political and economic history,” acknowledging his integrity and commitment to service. Tukur's legacy serves as a model of dedication for future leaders.
