Bandit Kingpin Iliya Mai Rasha Killed in Katsina Battle

On July 26, 2023, at approximately 5:40 PM, a fierce gun battle occurred in Guga Village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the death of notorious bandit commander Iliya Mai Rasha and over 40 suspected bandits. The attack was reportedly initiated by more than 200 armed bandits mobilized by another bandit kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki.

Iliya Mai Rasha had been linked to numerous violent crimes, including kidnappings in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. A combined force of local hunters, the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and troops from the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade confronted the attackers, leading to heavy casualties among the bandits.

The operation was deemed a significant success, with security sources confirming the deaths of at least eight senior commanders. However, five local hunters were also killed during the operation.

Military authorities and the Katsina State Government praised the efforts of the troops and community personnel for restoring calm in the area.
