Bandits Abduct 26 People in Coordinated Attacks in Zamfara, Raising Security Concerns

In a troubling development, armed bandits abducted at least 26 people in coordinated attacks on two communities in Zamfara State. The attacks occurred in Talata Mafara Local Government Area over the weekend.

Yahaya Yari Abubakar, the Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government, confirmed the incidents. The first attack took place in Matuna Village, where three people were abducted and one resident was killed.

The bandits later struck Tashar Kuturu Village, abducting 23 individuals and injuring residents. The victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The bandits, heavily armed and on motorcycles, deployed tripod-mounted guns to instill fear and enforce compliance during the attacks. Zamfara State has been a hotspot for banditry, with the 2021 abduction of nearly 300 female students from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe gaining global attention.

This incident adds to a recent surge of attacks in the North-West, including the abduction of 170 worshippers in Kajuru, Kaduna State, and similar incidents in Kebbi and Niger States.
