Ex-Niger SUBEB Chairman Freed After Eight Months Captivity

Moham Bawa Niworo, the former chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), regained his freedom after spending eight months in captivity. He was abducted in September 2022 along the New Bussa-Mokwa road near IBB University in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N150 million. The family reportedly paid N30 million in December 2022, but Niworo was not released at that time.

The ransom demand was later reduced, and threats were made to kill him if the situation did not resolve. As of the time of reporting, further details regarding his release had not been made available to the press.
