Bandits Kill Eight in Plateau State Attack on April 9

On April 9, 2023, at approximately 10:30 PM, a bandit attack in Mbwell Village, Kwata District, Bokko Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulted in the deaths of eight residents. The victims were identified as Habila Istifanu (38), Hassan Istifanu (31), Iliya Mangut (70), Sundai Gideon (31), Innoc Banaba (20), Lucki Titu (38), Wisdom Lucki (15), and Bwehsun Hassan (25).

Security sources reported that the attack was part of a renewed wave of reprisals in the area. Joint security forces responded to a distress call but did not encounter the attackers, who fled the scene.

The distance to the troop base was noted to be 15 kilometers, and the terrain was described as difficult, contributing to the delay in response. Casualties included injuries, and the injured were evacuated to Bokko Cottage Hospital.

Troops have since launched operations to track down the assailants.
