Bandits Kill Niger Village Head Ahmed Yusuf and Four Others

Suspected bandits attacked the village of Galla in the Borgu local government area, resulting in the death of the village head, Ahmed Yusuf, and four other residents. The traditional ruler was reportedly killed in his palace.

Sources indicated that the bandits also abducted an unspecified number of people during the attack. This incident raised significant concerns regarding the security situation in Borgu, especially as it occurred shortly after suspected terrorists targeted several communities, including an attack on a mosque in Kpenya during Juma’at prayers, leading to the abduction of many worshippers.

In response to these escalating threats, the Niger State Government instructed security agencies to intensify their efforts to rescue the abducted individuals and restore normalcy in the affected areas. It was noted that Ahmed Yusuf had previously warned bandits to avoid his community, a warning that was perceived as a challenge, potentially inciting the attack against him.
