Bandits Use IEDs in Sokoto Attack, One Dead, Several Injured

On Sunday, bandits planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on a road in Sokoto to prevent security personnel from responding to a distress call during an attack on Kurawa village. The attack occurred around 1:00 AM, leading to the death of a resident identified as Sabiu Yakubu and injuries to others.

Eyewitnesses reported that a dozen armed bandits on motorcycles invaded the village, stealing valuables, including livestock. Local soldiers typically respond to such calls but were delayed, prompting residents to lament the lack of adequate intervention from security agencies.

The attack also involved the abduction of three individuals, with two escaping. The Sokoto State Police Command and local representatives, including Hon.

Aminu Boza, were contacted for comments but did not respond by the time of the report. This incident underscores the growing threat posed by armed groups in Sokoto East, with residents expressing fears over the increasing use of explosives in attacks.
