IED Blast in Sokoto Kills One, Injures Several Others

An improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Sokoto State resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries when a commercial vehicle unknowingly struck the device. The incident occurred early on Sunday along Kurawa Sabon Birni Road in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

The vehicle was transporting commuters to Sabon Birni town when it hit the explosive, which was allegedly planted by loyalists of a notorious bandit leader. Eyewitness accounts describe the aftermath as devastating, with severe damage to the vehicle and victims trapped in the wreckage.

Panic ensued immediately after the blast, with residents rushing to help the injured. Reports indicate that nearby medical facilities were involved in treating the injured, while the body of the deceased was recovered from the scene.

The Sokoto State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and efforts to contact the public relations officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, were unsuccessful. The attack has heightened fears among residents of Sabon Birni and surrounding communities, as bandit attacks continue to threaten lives and disrupt economic activities.
