IGP Disu Submits State Police Framework to Senate President

On Thursday, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, submitted a comprehensive 75-page framework for the establishment of state police to the Senate President, Barau Jibrin. This submission is part of efforts to decentralize policing in Nigeria.

The framework was presented on behalf of the IGP to the Senate President, who chairs the Senate committee reviewing the 1999 constitution. The document, titled "Comprehensive Framework for Establishing Government Coordinated Federal and State Police," outlines proposed operational modalities for state police in Nigeria.

It includes professional insights, strategic recommendations, and an assessment of legal and administrative implications. The IGP's report is expected to significantly contribute to ongoing deliberations and inform balanced decisions regarding national security architecture.

The Senate committee, under Barau Jibrin's leadership, will review the framework alongside other memos submitted as part of the constitutional review process.
