Barau Jibrin Makes History as First Dual Appropriations Chair

Barau Jibrin has made history as the first lawmaker in Nigeria to chair both the House of Representatives and Senate appropriations committees. His tenure as chairman of the House appropriations committee spanned from 1999 to 2003, during the early years of Nigeria's Fourth Republic, a period marked by the rebuilding of the legislative budget process following military rule.

His efforts in financial management and reform aimed at improving transparency and accountability in government budgeting earned him national recognition, leading to his appointment by President Olusegun Obasanjo to a presidential committee reviewing Nigeria's budget process nearly two decades ago. From 2019 to 2023, Jibrin served as the chairman of the Senate appropriations committee, overseeing the legislative process for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory appropriations bill.

He has been praised for his extensive legislative experience and expertise in public finance, which are considered valuable assets to the National Assembly.
