DOJ Investigates California Governor Newsom's Wife

California Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, suggesting that the inquiry is politically motivated as he contemplates a presidential run in 2028. Newsom stated that federal agents have contacted family and friends, and it is believed that a grand jury subpoena has been issued for financial records related to Siebel Newsom, a filmmaker and gender equity advocate.

Newsom's office has not seen the subpoena, and legal restrictions prevent disclosure of the records. The investigation is reportedly being conducted by the U.S.

Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California. Dana Williamson, Newsom's former chief of staff, has pleaded guilty to bank fraud charges unrelated to the allegations against Siebel Newsom.

Newsom has publicly criticized the investigation, framing it as a vendetta against him and his family, while also engaging in social media battles with former President Donald Trump, who he claims has a "hit list" of political opponents.
