De Jong Undergoes Treatment for Knee Injury Post-World Cup

Frenkie de Jong, a Dutch midfielder for FC Barcelona, is currently receiving treatment for a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee, an injury he sustained while representing the Netherlands at the World Cup. The injury was diagnosed upon his return to Barcelona, where club doctors determined it was more serious than the initial assessment made by the Dutch medical staff.

De Jong stated that he played through pain during the tournament, where the Netherlands was eliminated in the last-32 round. He participated in two group phase matches and played 109 minutes in a penalty shoot-out defeat to Morocco.

Following more intensive medical tests at Barcelona, it was confirmed that surgery is not required, and he will undergo conservative treatment under the supervision of the club's medical staff. His recovery progress will be monitored in the coming weeks as Barcelona prepares to defend their Liga title starting on August 23 against Elche.
