Zidane Appoints Barthez as France Goalkeeper Coach
Zinedine Zidane has appointed Fabien Barthez as the new goalkeeper coach for the France national football team. This decision comes after Zidane was named head coach on a four-year contract last month, succeeding Didier Deschamps, who led France to the 2026 World Cup.
Zidane and Barthez were integral members of the France team that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 European Championship. Barthez, who earned 87 international caps, was the first-choice goalkeeper for France during several major tournaments, with his final appearance being in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy.
Following his playing career, which included stints at Toulouse, Marseille, Monaco, and Manchester United, Barthez will now collaborate with Zidane as they prepare for the next phase of France's international campaign.
