Zidane Appointed Head Coach of France National Team

Zinedine Zidane has been appointed as the new head coach of the France national football team, as confirmed by the French Football Federation (FFF) on Tuesday. The 54-year-old Zidane replaces Didier Deschamps, who concluded a remarkable 14-year tenure earlier this month after France's fourth-place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Zidane, a legendary figure in football, is expected to lead Les Bleus into a new era ahead of the 2028 UEFA European Championship and the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He expressed that coaching the national team was his ultimate ambition, having turned down numerous club offers over the past five years.

Zidane's appointment marks his return to coaching after a five-year hiatus following his departure from Real Madrid in 2021. Deschamps, who led France to victory in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and had a successful tenure, leaves behind a strong legacy.

Zidane and Deschamps were teammates during France's golden generation, winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship in 2000.
