Zinedine Zidane has reunited with Fabien Barthez, naming him the new goalkeeper coach for the France national football team. Zidane was appointed as head coach last month on a four-year contract, succeeding Didier Deschamps, who previously led the team to the 2026 World Cup.

Barthez, who made 87 appearances for France, was part of the squad that won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship alongside Zidane. His last match for the national team was the 2006 World Cup final, where Zidane was infamously sent off for headbutting Marco Materazzi.
