Bauchi APC Crisis Deepens as Senator Buba Defects to PRP

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People's Redemption Party (PRP), alongside several other party members. Buba announced his resignation on Sunday, May 24, 2026, citing violations of party rules and a lack of internal democracy within the APC.

He withdrew from the APC governorship primaries, describing the process as unfair and predetermined. Buba emphasized the need for genuine leadership that addresses national challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and insecurity.

Other notable resignations include Hon. Rabilu Bala Kashuri and Hon.

Shehu Aliyu Musa, who also criticized the APC for its lack of cohesion and fair treatment of members. The defections follow extensive consultations with various political allies, youth groups, and stakeholders across Bauchi State, with Buba urging support for the PRP to foster better governance and accountability.
