Bauchi State Increases Pay for Traditional Rulers by 300%

The Bauchi State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed, approved a significant pay rise for traditional rulers during a meeting on Monday. Chief Economic Adviser Yahuza Adamu Ningi announced that the new remuneration structure will categorize rulers into first, second, and third classes, although specific figures were not disclosed.

The review indicates that traditional rulers previously earned virtually nothing, with the new arrangement increasing their pay by as much as 300%. This reform is part of a broader initiative to strengthen traditional institutions and improve governance in previously ungoverned areas.

The state government has also provided vehicles and housing for traditional rulers as part of these reforms. The aim is to preserve historical significance and enhance administrative reach, ensuring that all traditional rulers, including emirs, district heads, and village heads, are adequately compensated.
