Bauchi State Deploys 40 Tractors for Climate Action

Bauchi State has taken a significant step to address climate-related challenges by deploying 40 heavy tractors, with support from the World Bank, as part of a land restoration project. Governor Bala Mohammed officially flagged off the distribution of these tractors, which are designed to tackle environmental threats such as soil erosion, drought, and flooding while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The initiative aims to fast-track land rehabilitation and strengthen community resilience against climate change across the state. Dr.

Ibrahim Kabir, the state coordinator, emphasized that the machinery will support eco-friendly farming methods and improve productivity in vulnerable rural communities. Additionally, the state has procured more tractors to enhance mechanized agriculture access for smallholder farmers across Bauchi's 20 local government areas.

A report indicated that 20 tractors were previously deployed, generating revenue of N36 million during the last farming season. The current project allocates three tractors per local government area, with anticipated revenue exceeding N100 million for the upcoming season.

Bauchi State ranks first among 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory in participating in this project, which aligns with World Bank operational guidelines.
