Bauchi Governor Orders Crackdown on Illegal Miners

On Tuesday, Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed ordered a crackdown on illegal mining activities within the state, instructing security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, to prosecute anyone involved, regardless of their societal status. During a visit from Major General WM Dangana, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Mohammed asserted that “no individual is above the law,” even referencing his own son.

He praised the Nigerian Army for their swift response to security breaches in Alkaleri Local Government Area, which he described as timely and reassuring. The Governor called for enhanced inter-state military collaboration to combat banditry and illegal mining, which he identified as contributing to rural insecurity.

He pledged his administration's support for military operations and emphasized the importance of security for development. Mohammed also mentioned investments in infrastructure to improve the operational welfare of soldiers, including a Joint Task Force Base in Mansur.
