Bauchi Governor Cancels APC Defection Over Power Formula

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has decided against defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the party's rejection of a proposed 60/40 power-sharing formula. The discussions aimed at resolving a deadlock between the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and APC leadership were led by Turaki, who heads a faction of the PDP.

APC's leadership was reportedly unwilling to accommodate the PDP's structural demands in Bauchi State. Despite efforts from Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to persuade Mohammed to join APC, the negotiations failed to yield an agreement on the power-sharing formula.

Consequently, Sama Ila Burga, the chairman of the Turaki-led PDP faction, announced the formal discontinuation of talks, emphasizing the need for the PDP to explore alternative political platforms. The situation reflects ongoing political realignments in Bauchi State, with the PDP considering its options in light of the APC's stance.
