Bauchi Governor Commits to Nutrition and Maternal Health

On Thursday, during a courtesy visit from Dr. Osita Okwonkwo, the country director of Nutrition International, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Moham reaffirmed his administration's commitment to enhancing nutrition, maternal health, and child survival across the state.

He expressed gratitude to the Government of Canada for its support, particularly in health, agriculture, education, and youth development. Governor Moham noted that nutrition is a critical foundation for human capital development and revealed that his administration has invested significantly in the health sector, exceeding the 15% benchmark recommended by the Abuja Declaration.

The state has built thousands of healthcare facilities, including 323 upgraded primary healthcare centers. Additionally, the state released N872 million as counterpart funding for primary healthcare programs and N300 million as a UNICEF child nutrition match grant.

Governor Moham plans to release N500 million to further strengthen nutrition programs aimed at eliminating malnutrition among vulnerable groups. Dr.

Okwonkwo commended the visible developments in Bauchi, particularly in road infrastructure and health sector investments.
