Bauchi Justice Ministry Urges Students to Report GBV

The Bauchi State Ministry of Justice, represented by Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary Sabiu Adamu Gumba, held a sensitization campaign on October 4 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) to encourage students to report instances of gender-based violence (GBV). The event, organized in collaboration with ATBU’s Faculty of Environmental Technology and supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), aimed to educate the university community about the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, which was enacted in 2022.
Gumba stressed the ministry's commitment to eradicating GBV while upholding constitutional rights, stating that silence only empowers offenders. He warned against trading sex for grades and urged the university community to speak out against GBV.
Prof. Adamu Babayo, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Technology, acknowledged the need for awareness regarding the legal consequences of GBV. The faculty selected two student representatives per department to help disseminate the anti-GBV message.
